Another was that it was meant to be a competitor for Yamaha RGX. One of the popular opinion was that Rocky George (guitarist formerly of Suicidal Tendencies, currently of Fishbone), was its designer, because Rocky's initials are the same as the model, and he was one of the first famous users of the RG model. The Ibanez RG was originally designed in 1987, the same year as Steve Vai's signature guitar JEM 777, and perhaps RG was received and served as a derivative of Vai's model back then.Īlso, there has been some confusion and mischief around the RG name. The RG's deep cutaway, flatter fingerboard and extended fret range (24 frets as standard) has made it one of the most popular guitars for rock and heavy metal music. The RG series has the most subtypes of any Ibanez model and is the most popular series of Ibanez electric guitars produced by Hoshino Gakki. It rose in popularity throughout the 1980s and had the features that musicians in the rising shred and thrash metal movements of that time were looking for: a fast neck, comfortable body, powerful pickups, and a reliable tremolo system. That series was renamed "RG" in 1992 and all models since are simply known as RGs. The first model in the series, the RG550, was originally released in 1987 and advertised as part of the Roadstar series. The Ibanez RG is a series of electric guitars produced by Hoshino Gakki and one of the best-selling superstrat-style guitars ever made. If you're gonna use it to play loud with lots of distortion, it tends to very easliy give feedback wich is annoying.Basswood, Mahogany, Mahogany with Maple capĥpc Maple with Walnut, 3pc Maple with WalnutĮdge, Edge Lo-Pro, Edge Zero, Edge III Tremolo, Fixed Bridge, Edge Pro Tremolo, Gibraltar Plus Bridge Even though, the pick-ups aren't to great. This guitar has given me alot of pleasure, and I have really enjoyed. (the price would be about half of what I paid if you buy it in the US. Even though I feel a bit unsatisfied with the neck and frets, I bought it used, and have used it for about three or four years, so it's a steady guitar considering the price. I'm not an all over expert, but the guitar is quite a solid piece. The neck isn't to strong and the frets are kinda sloppy put in there. I don't like the way this guitar kinda quikla 'wears out'. The bridge pick-up sounds pretty great if you have the right amp. I bought this guitar at the local music gear shop for about $570 (I live in Norway, it's an expensive country)

Ive tried many guitars in my life and the ibanez ex is by far one of the best instruments that i have ever used. The knobs for the tone and volume are lose but other than that its fine. There is a couple of little dents in the red body that you could only see if you thoroughly checked it over. Idislike that the ibanez ex gives awful feed back unless you back it up with a good amp. The ibanez is great for flaming hotlicks and creates a nice ring! It has a light mahogany neck with a dark brown fretboard that has pearl inlayįor markers.

The most thing i like about the ibanez ex is the candy apple red colour on mine. I paid 300 dollars for the candy apple red guitar as a first electric, this was lucky because it was almost in perfect mint condition. he did jobs for bands like nickle back and sum41, he supposevly bought it off one one of them. I purchased this Ibanez ex in 2002 used from a second cousin who was a sound technition for concerts in the toronto area.
