CALIPER TRANSCAD SOFTWARE
Especially software like Citilabs Cube, which has a much more difficult learning curve, would give a much better impression to their new users. Seeing how well the videos were received, I believe that the software houses could invest some time in creating their own video tutorials or giving incentives for users to do so.
CALIPER TRANSCAD MANUALS
CALIPER TRANSCAD PROFESSIONAL
Since I already had professional experience with TransCad and already knew pretty well the theory of the 4-step model, I decided that I’d use some of my time as a TA to develop some material to help the students with TransCad features: A series of videos to help my students with their project and a text tutorial (the subject of a future post when it is more complete). McNally had put together a very detailed step-by-step tutorial for proceeding with the project development, some students had problems “visualizing” the instructions. The first time I thought this class was in 2011, and I found that even though Prof. This discipline on 4-step modeling with a very intense (textbook) project to be done in TransCad, and I am the one teaching the students about the software (currently the 5.0 version, but I hope we will get the 6.0 from Caliper eventually since they have been very kind in giving us the software in the past). Among the many activities I have there, I am the teaching assistant (TA) for CEE123, which is an undergraduate senior class created to teach the 4-step modeling process to senior undergraduate and graduate students. The I-270 corridor in Maryland is one of eight test sites selected by the US DOT.As I already mentioned, I’m currently pursuing my Ph.D. The ICM initiative aims to demonstrate the use of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) to plan and manage congested traffic corridors by assisting decision-makers in identifying gaps, evaluating strategies, and investing in the best combination of strategies that would minimize congestion and improve safety. The objective of this project was to demonstrate the feasibility and benefits of TransModeler in supporting large-scale corridor analyses such as the Integrated Corridor Management (ICM) initiative by the US DOT. This work was conducted for the University of Maryland’s Center for Advanced Transportation Technology (CATT) and Maryland’s State Highway Administration (SHA). TransModeler - Integrated Corridor Management Program – Analysis, Modeling and Simulation (AMS) for the I-270 Corridor in Montgomery County, Maryland (Phase I)Ĭaliper Corporation developed a pilot TransModeler micro-simulation model for the I-270 corridor in Montgomery County, MD. The completed large-scale model will be used to assist planning and traffic operations staff with conducting scenario analyses and evaluating traffic management strategies for informed decision-making. The high prevalence of truck traffic and the crossings along the Canada–US border cause further challenges to accurately modeling dynamic trip patterns, route selection behavior and vehicle interactions. Time-varying origin-destination (OD) demand are being estimated to match available field data, and a Dynamic Traffic Assignment (DTA) based on TransModeler’s microscopic traffic simulation will be used to estimate a consistent set of congested travel times. The existing micro-simulation database in TransModeler is being expanded to the scope of the regional travel demand model, with a detailed representation of highway geography and traffic signal control in the region. TransModeler - Whatcom County Area-wide Micro-simulation ModelĬaliper is currently developing a microscopic traffic simulation model of Whatcom County, WA.
